Taking Stock

A professional review of your books - and an honest picture of where you stand.

"Am I actually getting this right?" Taking Stock is the place to ask that question - and get a proper answer from someone who's genuinely interested in your business.

I review your books thoroughly, put together a plain English report of what I found, and we talk it through together. Honestly, clearly, and with your business in mind - leaving you with a clear picture of exactly where you stand.

Taking Stock is for any business owner who wants an honest, professional view of where things stand - whether you manage your own books or someone else does. The review is the same either way.

How it works
01
The review

I look at your books across two layers - and both are standard, not optional.

The first is accuracy. Are your books reconciled, categorised correctly, and up to date? Is VAT being handled right? Is anything missing or inconsistent? The kind of things that are easy to miss when you're doing your own books alongside everything else.

The second is what your numbers are actually telling you. Income trends, expense patterns, cash position, anything worth your attention or worth planning for. Because knowing your books are accurate is useful - but knowing what they mean is what actually helps you run your business.

Where the books aren't in a reliable enough state to interpret meaningfully, I'll say so - clearly, and without drama. That's not a problem. It's an honest starting point.

02
The report

A plain English summary of everything I found - across both layers, written before we speak, so the conversation isn't the first time either of us is working through it.

The outcome is RAG-rated - green, amber, or red - so you know exactly where you stand.

03
The conversation

We talk through what the findings mean for you specifically - what needs attention, what can wait, and what to do next. No surprises. Just a straight conversation about your business and where it stands.

How often

A one-off review, annually, bi-annually, or quarterly - whatever fits your business and how you like to work. No fixed commitment.

Where this can lead

Sometimes a review surfaces bigger questions - not about the books, but about the business. That's exactly what the Business Sense Check is for. A structured conversation, available to any client, any time.

Ready to hand the books over? Your Finance Function is the natural next step - and opens the door to The Bigger Picture. A regular financial narrative and forward look that goes deeper than any periodic review can.

Who this is for

This is particularly valuable for businesses that are growing, project-based, or simply want the reassurance of a professional eye - without committing to ongoing support. Whether you manage your own books or someone else does, a periodic review from someone who knows what they're looking at changes what you can see.

The goal is always the same: finances you can trust, a clear picture of where you stand, and the confidence to get on with the work that actually made you start your business in the first place.

Taking Stock is £250 per session - one-off, or at whatever cadence suits. See Ways to Work Together for a full overview of services and pricing.
